Common problems we fix

  • The refrigerator runs but is not cooling
  • Frost is building up in the freezer
  • The ice maker has stopped making ice
  • Water is pooling under or inside the unit
  • The wine column is not holding its set temperature
  • The compressor runs constantly

We repair all of these. Tell us your model number and what the unit is doing.

What we repair

We work on Sub‑Zero built‑in refrigeration only.

Our technicians see the same failures on these units every week, so they know what to check first and carry the parts the repair is likely to need.

    Marine Repair

We work dockside across South Florida on galley refrigerators, freezer drawers and ice makers, including 700‑series and ID‑24R units.

Dockside service

We repair Sub‑Zero galley refrigeration at your slip.

We repair 700‑series units, ID‑24R drawers, galley ice makers and wine storage at the dock, and our technicians carry the parts these repairs usually need. A galley is harder on refrigeration than a kitchen, and these are the failures we find most often aboard.

Salt air

Salt air corrodes electrical contacts, condenser coils and line fittings. We clean and coat the condenser, replace corroded parts and check the system for leaks.

Vibration

Vibration at sea loosens refrigerant lines, wiring connections and mounting hardware. We re-torque the fittings, re-seat the connections and secure the unit in its cabinet.

Power surges

Switching between shore power, generator and inverter sends surges through the control board. We test the board and the wiring, then replace whatever the surge damaged.

Access

Galley units sit in tight cabinetry, so we use short-handle tools and protect the finish.

How it works

What happens from your first call to the finished repair.

  1. Call us any time, day or night

Someone answers the phone at night, on weekends and on holidays. Have the model and serial number from the sticker inside the door ready, and we can usually tell you what is likely wrong before we come out.

  2. We send a technician to you

We can be there the same day across Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach if you call before noon. You get a text with the technician’s name once they are on the way to you. If your building requires a certificate of insurance, we send it to management before the visit.

  3. You approve the price before we start

The technician diagnoses the unit and then gives you the total in writing. We do not start the repair until you approve that price, and we do not charge more for nights, weekends or holidays.

  4. We finish the repair and clean up

We cover your floors and protect the cabinet faces before we start. Your invoice lists the part numbers and includes photographs of what we replaced, and every repair carries one year on parts and labor.

    Wine column running warm

The wine column was reading 61°F when we arrived. We repaired a refrigerant leak at the evaporator joint and recharged the system. It held 55°F by that afternoon.

  • Fort LauderdaleTuesday

    Ice maker had stopped filling

The fill tube on this undercounter ice maker was frozen solid. We replaced the water inlet valve and reset the cleaning cycle.

  • Palm BeachMonday

Loud noise from a refrigerator column

The owner heard a new noise from a 700-series column. We replaced the evaporator fan motor and cleaned the condenser while the panel was off.

  • IslamoradaThursday

    Galley refrigerator not staying cold

Salt air had corroded the electrical contacts in a galley refrigerator drawer. We replaced and coated the contacts and flushed salt out of the condenser. The drawer was back at temperature the same visit.

  • NaplesFriday

    Refrigerator door not sealing

The weight of the custom door panel had pulled the hinges out of line, so the door no longer sealed. We realigned the hinges and fitted a new gasket, which stopped the compressor from running constantly.

Refrigerator stopped cooling after a storm

The lights and display came back on after a storm outage, but the refrigerator was not cooling. We replaced the control board and checked the temperature sensors before we finished.

What our customers say

These are comments from customers whose units we have repaired across South Florida.

  • The refrigerator side stopped getting cold and there was a sheet of ice across the back wall. The technician showed me the failed defrost heater, told me what the repair would cost, and had the part with him. It has held temperature ever since.

  • Our building will not let a contractor upstairs without a certificate of insurance, and they had it over to management before the technician arrived. The drawers had stopped cooling and were fixed the same afternoon. I appreciated not having to chase anyone for paperwork.

    Danielle M.PinecrestRefrigerator drawers

  • Two other companies told me my outdoor unit was too old to work on and I should replace it. This one came out the next morning, replaced the control board and a temperature sensor, and it has run normally since. Replacing it would have meant rebuilding the cabinet around it.

    Sandra K.JupiterOutdoor refrigerator

  • We had frost building up in the freezer and water under the bottom drawer. He found the drain line blocked, cleared it out, and there has not been frost since.

    Rick T.Key BiscayneFreezer column

  • Our galley ice maker quit while the boat was in a slip and nobody I called would come to the marina. They took the slip number, sorted out dock access, and were aboard the next morning. Working again before we went out that weekend.

  • I got a text with the technician’s name when he was on his way, and he turned up inside the window they gave me. He walked me through the price before he started and there was nothing added on at the end.

Repair or replace

Repairing a built-in usually costs a fraction of replacing it.

Typical repair$300–800Sealed-system and compressor work runs $1,200–2,400
Replacing the unit$8,000–18,000Cabinet work is usually needed on top of that price

A built-in is sized to the opening in your cabinets, so fitting another brand usually means paying a carpenter to rebuild them. Repairing makes sense whenever it costs less than half the cost of replacing it, which is true on most of the jobs we see. We do our own work, and we will not push you to buy a new one.

When we will tell you to replace it

  • Rust has gone through the structural frame. Frame rust is common near the coast and cannot be repaired.
  • The sealed system has failed twice within five years.
  • The unit is more than twenty-five years old and has several problems at the same time.

Questions

Common questions about Sub-Zero repair.

If your question is not answered here, call us and we will answer it.

Is it worth repairing a Sub-Zero?

Almost always. A typical repair runs $300–800, and even sealed-system or compressor work at $1,200–2,400 costs far less than a like-for-like replacement at $8,000–18,000. A replacement also means paying for cabinet work, because the unit is framed into the surrounding millwork. We recommend repair when it costs less than half the cost of replacing it, and we will tell you when your unit is past that point.

What does a Sub-Zero repair cost?

The price depends on what has failed. The technician diagnoses the unit at your home and gives you the total in writing, and you approve it before any work starts. Completed repairs carry one year on parts and labor. There is no surcharge for nights, weekends or holidays.

How fast can you get here?

We can usually get a technician to you the same day in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach if you call before noon. In Monroe, Martin, Collier and St. Lucie it is usually the next morning. Someone answers the phone at any hour, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Will you have the part with you?

Our technicians carry compressors, evaporator and condenser fans, control boards, gaskets, hinges and ice-maker modules for current and recent models. Most repairs are finished in one visit. If we do not have the part with us, we order it the same day.

Do you service Sub-Zero units on boats?

Yes. We work dockside and we can reach units built into galley cabinetry. Tell us the marina and the slip number and we will arrange dock access before the visit.

Are you affiliated with Sub-Zero?

No. We are an independent service company, not authorized or endorsed by Sub-Zero Group. We work on their equipment every day and we use OEM parts, but warranty work has to go through a factory certified company.

Which models do you work on?

We work on the current Classic, Designer and PRO series, and on the older units they replaced: 600 and 700 series models and anything with a BI or IT prefix. We also service ice makers from the UC-15I through the current DEU1550I, along with wine storage, refrigerator drawers and outdoor units.
